Big Town
Congrats. This is a big milestone filled with some important options and assets.
High Density Residential
High Density Commercial
High Density Office (a new type of zone)
A metro station (most likely not needed for such a small town)
A college
And an INCINERATOR
Remember that items you see in my screenshots that don't appear in your game are from GREEN CITIES. So just pretend they aren't there :D.
LET'S TALK TRASH
The landfills. I remember my days in the real life landfills (house remodeling). Oh so not fun. Well our game one might look neater than the corporeal equivalent but it is still not something I want in my city. Even with and environmentally enhanced citizenship, there is still plenty of trash. Trash makes pollution and pollution makes folks sick. So very much NOT good.
Enter the incinerators.
As the city moved into Big Town status there were two FULL landfills. One percent free. Well that was cutting it close. Let's look at the differences.
Here are the garbage stats showing the amount of trash the city was producing each week.
Here is what the incinerators do.
So doing the math -- two would JUST cover the current cities production of waste. But aside from the city growing, I wanted to burn up everything in the landfills so that I could delete them. I opted to put down four which I knew was more than I "really" needed. But there was plenty of money and I wanted those landfills gone quickly. They were.
I deleted the landfills and kept three of the four incinerators going. I turned the fourth one off (in the information pane when you click on the plot).
The GOOD news is that over time some of that pollution will fade away. It won't be GONE however until the city reaches Milestone status and is able to acquire the Eden Project.
OFFICE ZONES
The second most exciting thing at this level -- for me anyway -- is office zones. They make a very nice buffer between commercial and residential or industry and commercial. They don't seem to get abandoned as easily either. Happy to have them available.
This is my zoning map as the next level begins. Yes, that big brown area is the old "dump" and the current incinerators. Nothing can grow there so putting parks or trees is useless. The best you can do is wait it out and see the circle reduced in size.
As I plotted these zones (the empty area on the west will be forestry industry) I was thinking about the next plot to get. There are roads already in use that can easily be extended west for more industry -- this keeping the truck traffic out of the norther part of the city (well SOME of it anyway). There are railways to the west that can be utilized for shipping goods in and out. There are also railways to the north. Since I can buy both (or maybe even more by now) I will probably do that.
Next up we are going to look at buses. Let's get this city moving swiftly and smoothly.
On to Small City.
